Rutgers University Greek Recruitment
Welcome!
Thanks for your interest in joining the fraternity/sorority community at Rutgers University. With over 70 different recognized organizations our community offers something for everyone.
Recruitment/Intake Basics
Membership Recruitment (also referred to as “Intake” or “Rush”) typically takes place during the first three weeks of the semester. Any student interested in joining a fraternity or sorority must first register with OFSA so we may verify academic eligibility. Academic information for registered students is then shared with the fraternities and sororities.
The recruitment/intake process varies slightly based on the organization a student would like to join. Listed below is a brief outline of what you might expect during the recruitment/intake process:
- If you are a man or woman interested in joining a culturally-based fraternity or sorority (historically African –American, Latino/a, Asian, South Asian, Multicultural):
Chapters will hold individual Information Sessions. Information Sessions are held on campus and usually consist of professional presentations given by members of the organization. Information Sessions are advertised via Facebook groups and flyers.
- If you are a man or woman interested in joining a Co-ed/Special Interest fraternity :
Recruitment begins on January 18th. Chapters will hold individual Information Sessions and recruitment events for those interested in joining. Recruitment events are advertised via Facebook groups and flyers.
- If you are a man interested in joining a fraternity:
Recruitment begins on January 18th. Men are encouraged to attend recruitment events at more then one fraternity so they may find the organization best suited for them. Events are typically casual in nature and generally activity centered. Recruitment events are held on and off-campus and are advertised via Facebook groups and on-campus flyers.
- If you are a woman interested in joining a sorority:
Recruitment begins on January 26th. You must register to participate in recruitment if you plan on joining Alpha Chi Omega, Delta Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, Phi Sigma Sigma, Sigma Delta Tau, Sigma Kappa or Zeta Tau Alpha.Women are encouraged to attend recruitment events at more then one sorority so they may find the organization best suited for them. Although all fraternities and sororities are strongly encouraged to recruit members each semester, some organizations may not accepting new members this semester. If you have questions about a specific organization, contact OFSA at (732) 932-7692.
